Real Project: Fitting Modern Utilities into a Solid Timber Cabin

We often focus on the exterior structures of our timber buildings, but the real magic happens inside. Many customers ask us: "Can these cabins really support modern living with full utilities?"
The answer is a definitive YES.
Turning a timber shell into a functional space requires planning for plumbing and electricity. Here is how it works in practice, using photos from a recent installation.
1. The Functional Kitchenette

The focal point of this guest annex is the compact kitchen area.
- All Mod Cons: It has everything needed for basic living: a stainless steel sink with running water, integrated electric hobs for cooking, and space engineered under the counter for a fridge.
- Solid Foundations: Our solid timber walls provide a sturdy, secure base for fixing heavy cabinetry and counters. The warm, natural wood grain creates an instantly cozy atmosphere that requires no painting or plastering.
2. Electrics & Safety (The Consumer Unit)

A common question we get is: "How do you hide the wires when the walls are solid wood?"
In a standard log cabin (single skin), you cannot "chase" wires into the walls like you do with brick. As shown in the image above, the professional solution is to use neat surface-mounted trunking (the white conduits).
- The Consumer Unit: Pictured prominently is a modern domestic consumer unit (fuse box) with circuit breakers. This ensures the cabin's electrics are safe, compliant, and capable of handling appliances like the kitchen hob, heaters, and lighting.
- Neat Finish: The trunking runs neatly along the corners and ceiling lines, keeping wires safe and tidy without compromising the timber structure.
(Note: In our "Twin Skin" insulated models, wires can often be hidden inside the cavity wall for a completely flush finish).
Summary
Whether you are creating an Airbnb rental, a home office with a coffee station, or a fully independent "granny annexe," our cabins are ready for the challenge. They provide a robust, beautiful shell that easily accommodates professional plumbing and electrical first-fixes.
