A Look Inside: Why Solid Timber Makes All the Difference

A Look Inside: Why Solid Timber Makes All the Difference

When browsing for garden buildings online, it’s easy to focus solely on the exterior design. But the true test of a cabin's quality is what you feel when you step inside.

This photo shows one of our cabins immediately after construction has finished. It’s a "blank canvas," but it already speaks volumes about quality.

Here is what you should be looking for when assessing a cabin's interior.

1. The Thickness of the Timber

Look closely at the doorway walls and the corners in the image. You aren't looking at thin sheets of plywood tacked onto a frame. You are looking at solid, substantial timber logs that interlock.

  • Durability: This structure is built to last for decades, not just a few seasons. It feels solid underfoot and doesn't rattle in the wind.
  • Natural Insulation: Thick timber has inherent insulating properties. Even without extra heating, this space will feel noticeably warmer in winter and cooler in summer compared to a thin-walled shed.

2. The Natural Aesthetic (and Smell!)

While a photo can't convey smell, walking into a brand-new timber cabin is a sensory experience. The scent of fresh pine is unmistakable and instantly calming.

Visually, the natural grain shown in this photo adds warmth and character that plastic or metal simply cannot replicate. It creates an inviting atmosphere from day one, even before you add furniture.

3. Your Blank Canvas

This interior is ready for you to make your mark.

  • Keep it Natural: Many clients love the look of the raw wood seen here and simply apply a clear protective treatment.
  • Modernise it: Others choose to paint the walls (like the crisp white interior in our recent office project) to create a bright, Scandi-style contrast with the wooden floor.

Summary

Don't just judge a cabin by its outside picture. The quality of the interior materials determines comfort, longevity, and value. A solid timber interior is an investment in a genuine living space, not just a storage box.
